Changde Apartment

Added by Admin on Nov 2, 2009

Built in 1936, Changde Apartments, also known as Eddington House, is a fine example of Art Deco building in the city. Apart from its charming external charisma, the former famous resident - one of Shanghai's most beloved female writers, Eileen Chang, is the reason why so many people are attracted to this building. Chang wrote about Eddington House in several books. In 1939, she moved here with her mother and aunt. Later she went to Hong Kong for study. When she returned to Shanghai in 1942, Chang started living here again until 1947. This is the place where she finished several beautiful semi-autobiographical novels.
